Statistical Thermodynamics

Statistical Thermodynamics:
The branch of physics that applies probability theory to the study of thermodynamics.

Statistical Thermodynamics is also called Statistical Mechanics.

Statistical Entropy

S is entropy.

k is the Boltzmann Constant = 1.38 X 10-23 JL-1

W is the number of equivalent equally probable configurations and itis a direct measurement of disorder in a system.

S = k ln W
